Traffic information line

Call the DGT on 011 for road and traffic information. In an emergency, always call 112.

Weather and warnings

Storms, wind and heat can affect the roads too. Check the forecast and official warnings.

The main roads

A-7, the coast road

The free road that runs along the coast through the towns. Busiest at rush hour and on summer weekends, with plenty of roundabouts and junctions.

AP-7, the toll motorway

The faster, quieter alternative inland, with tolls on the stretches between Fuengirola and the west coast. Often worth it when the A-7 is jammed.

Málaga ring roads

The routes around Málaga, towards the airport, the city and the A-45 inland, get heavy at peak times. Allow extra time for flights.

Roads inland

Routes up to Coín, Alhaurín and the Guadalhorce Valley are quieter but winding, and can be affected by storms and roadworks.

Local driving tips

1

Summer weekends

Expect queues into Marbella, Puerto Banús and the beaches from late morning, and leaving them in the evening.
2

Airport runs

Add extra time in high season and on Friday and Sunday afternoons, when everyone is flying in or out.
3

Ferias and events

Town fairs, concerts and festivals bring road closures and diversions. Check the local council’s news.
4

Autumn rain

Heavy storms can flood underpasses and low roads. Never drive through flooded roads or dry riverbeds.
