Mostly summer

Terral

A hot, dry wind from inland that can push temperatures in Málaga and along the coast far above normal, usually for a day or two. Expect a sudden, oven-like heat.

Any time of year

Levante

A strong easterly wind funnelled through the Strait of Gibraltar. It brings choppy seas and blustery days, especially around Gibraltar and Tarifa.

September to November

Autumn storms

Occasional “DANA” storm systems can bring sudden, very heavy rain and flash flooding. Check AEMET warnings, and avoid flooded roads and dry riverbeds.

July and August

Summer heat

Hot on the coast and hotter inland. Stay hydrated, avoid the midday sun, and keep an eye out for heat warnings.
